Personal stories have power.
Do you have personal experience with unstable housing or homelessness? Have you faced barriers to obtaining a home? Has your life greatly improved as a result of living in a home that you can afford?
If so, your personal story is powerful. And, it has the potential to influence the way lawmakers think about affordable homes and tenant rights.
One of the most persuasive ways to communicate the everyday struggles that people face – and the solutions - is to share personal stories with the people who write our laws. If you have been evicted, have struggled to afford your rent, experienced homelessness, or currently live in an affordable home, your story and experience matters! You could help gain the support of a lawmaker who otherwise may not be engaged on issues related to affordable homes and tenant rights.
Your story can be used in a variety of ways, from a few sentences in a social media post to testifying at a public hearing. You have total control over the information that is shared, and how it is shared. Housing Alliance staff is available to help you tell your story in a compelling way, and to support you every step of the way.
If you’d like to share your story with us, please fill out this form. After you submit, a Housing Alliance staff member will follow up with you.
