Yesterday, the Washington Economic and Revenue Forecast Council announced its official forecast for the next three years: a deficit of $8.8 billion. This comes on the heels of news that the Dept. of Commerce, the agency that primarily oversees homelessness programs, submitted $16 million in cuts. Who will feel these losses? Extremely low-income people with disabilities, who are relying on Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) for rental assistance to remain stably housed; people who rely on emergency shelter to remain safe throughout the pandemic; and those who are unstably housed and at-risk of homelessness.
The good news? Nothing is set in stone. We can and must fight for a better approach, by calling on the Governor and our Legislators to:
